Considerable to Consistent
A look into the initiative to improve upon the thresholds for considerable impact tag tornado warnings to provide a consistent message. The Storm Prediction Center will be implementing the new tornado warning criteria soon.
May 31, 2013: Tornado Outbreak & Historic Flooding
Up until the May 31st severe weather event, there were a total of 44 tornadoes that occurred in May of 2013. In fact, by the time the calendar flipped to May 31, 2013, the NWS Norman Weather Forecast Office (WFO) had dealt with severe weather almost non-stop from May 15th through June 1st. By evening of the 31st, 19 tornadoes were added to the tally. With 63 tornadoes recorded that month, May of 2013 ranked among the top five for the highest number of tornadoes in the month of May in Oklahoma.
